Mark Reid <markfaesomewhere>

I don't do these things very well but here goes my life as it stands in the smallest amount of words that i can manage... i work for a company called SELEX in Edinburgh have done since i graduated, i help to design and build lasers, well i think that is work covered...
I live in Dunfermline (Couldn't afford Edinburgh) in a nice little 2 bed flat with the other half, who as of August is now officially the wife....
Not much left to say really, the rest is important to me but probably not to anybody reading this

The Other Half Of Me
Pauline Reid

Music
You could say it was eclectic, everything from classical through to heavy metal but it is usually centered around indie rock... Best gig i've been to was probably White Stripes playing the SECC though Travis at T in the Park followed by Green Day was pretty good too
Films
The usual sort of stuff:- The Shawshank Redemption (doesn't this not feature on everybody's?), Kung Fu Hustle, Leon, Secretary and the list would go on... always getting hassle for having too many DVDs and not enough space to keep them
Sports
Snowboarding - as of last year (plus a little bit now) i can now make a not bad (read half arsed) attempt at getting down a hill.... now all i need to do is learn some tricks but first i have to buy a helmet (hopefully going to be a christmas present), what little there is of my brain i think i want to preserve for a wee while maybe into retirement.. other than that i like a bit of motor sport
Scared Of
not a lot
Happiest When

Certification!
Well thats it now official i've been assessed and i've to be committed...

well not quite, i've been assessed by an independent panel of mechanical engineers to meet the standard to be accepted as a member of the IMechE and as a Chartered Engineer! :D

And before anybody comments about me earning more money, i'll point out that i'll have less disposable income as i have to pay my membership fees, and that being chartered earns no extra money at work... wonderful world! :L

So for the first time i'm going to sign off with,

Broken leg and the recovery
If anybody doesn't know the story i broke my leg at the lecht (northern scotland) on a poma / button tow at the end of january.... the next question most people have is how did it happen?

well that bit i'm not quite sure of but i was going up the tow, lost my balance due to the ground being a little bumpy, with my back foot i bounced on the snow to gain my balance again (done this hundreds of times) however this time my boot went in a hole and with the twisting action, i broke my tibia (a plateau fracture to be precise)

ended up with a CT scan being done to see the damage and being put in plaster (full length from ankle to just below my crotch) for 6 weeks, not much fun...

on the 11th march i got the cast removed and was down to one crutch :) , not much muscle left on that leg, plenty on the other... after 4 days of hobbling about on one crutch, i chucked it to the side :D ... spent the next week just trying to build up how long i could walk on it for (ok limp for), attended my chartership interview, sporting a blue shirt, pink tie and a limp :L

went for physiotherapy on the 23rd, guy recommended that i start cycling, gave me a few pointers on why my walk wasn't quite right (seemingly i wasn't sticking my bum out enough :L ) and a lot of stretches and exercises...

the following monday went back to work for 4hours a day (great working for a big company who like to ease you back in gently)... after work i've been going to the gym, cycling just to loosen up the muscles and using something called a power plate (big vibrating plate thingy :D )... i can now walk up the stairs without much if any pain, can drive my car (stronger clutch than pauline's car)... can go down the stairs without any pain and can just about walk without limping at all...

and yes i certainly took some stick at work and i now feel good enough to go out and drink some of the money tomorrow night put behind the bar for delivering lots of goods to the customer :D

This is a fantastic picture of Forbes and Stanley, two of the greatest pets the world has ever known. Also the dimmest pets.
